18 households without insurance after major fire in Drammen

A devastating fire that swept through Stenseth in Krokstadelva on July 17 has left 113 homes destroyed, marking it as one of Norway's largest fires in over a century. While the community grapples with the scale of the destruction, new figures reveal that 18 households were uninsured, facing immense hardship in the aftermath.

According to updated information from Drammen municipality, 16 households lacked home insurance, while two were without insurance for their belongings. The municipality's acting director, Sudhir Sharma, confirmed that Nav, the Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration, is assisting those without home insurance by providing temporary accommodation.

Residents who did have insurance have received emergency funds from their insurance companies. These funds are intended to cover immediate necessities while the claims process unfolds and final settlements are determined. The fire, which occurred in a densely populated terraced housing area, fortunately resulted in no serious injuries to residents.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of adequate insurance coverage. As the affected families begin the long process of recovery and rebuilding, the focus remains on providing essential support and ensuring they have a place to stay during this critical period.
