19 irregular migrants found in truck in Turkey

Police in Turkey's Marmaraereğlisi district intercepted a truck carrying 19 irregular migrants concealed beneath a tarp. The operation occurred after law enforcement identified the vehicle as potentially involved in transporting migrants and placed it under surveillance.

During a search at a checkpoint, officers discovered the group, consisting of seven women and twelve men, hidden in the truck's cargo area. The driver, identified by the initials F.V., was taken into custody. He initially claimed to be a scrap dealer and asserted that the migrants had forced their way into his truck.

However, the migrants provided a different account. They reportedly told authorities that they had made an agreement with F.V. to travel to Greece and that he had willingly transported them. Following processing, the migrants were handed over to the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management. F.V. was later brought before a court in Marmaraereğlisi and remanded in custody on charges of migrant smuggling.
