19-year-old drunk driver kills couple in fatal crash

A fatal car accident north of Holstebro has claimed the lives of a married couple, with authorities confirming the 19-year-old driver involved was under the influence of alcohol. The incident occurred Sunday morning.

Reports indicate the young driver was measured with a blood alcohol level of 0.5 and was seen by witnesses driving at speeds approaching 200 kilometers per hour. He allegedly overtook several vehicles in the emergency lane before running a red light at the end of the highway, colliding with the couple's car.

The couple died at the scene, while the 19-year-old was ejected from his black Audi as it flew over the intersection. He is currently in intensive care at Aarhus University Hospital, undergoing surgery for hip and shoulder fractures. Doctors are monitoring him for internal injuries, and he is expected to remain hospitalized for about a week.
