Two men in custody over serious assault in Helsingør

Two men were remanded in custody on Sunday at the Court in Lyngby for a serious assault that occurred on Rønnebær Allé in Helsingør on June 1. The violent attack took place at a cafe in Helsingør on the evening of Monday, June 1. According to the prosecution, seven young men appeared at the scene. Some were fully masked, some partially masked, and some not at all. "Six of them brought what we perceive as weapons," said chief consultant Ulla Greibe, who represented the prosecution. Nordsjællands Police previously stated that the incident was a dispute between two groups, though the groups were not specified. Up to 15 people were involved, according to the prosecution. The motive for the dispute remains unclear. The incident concluded when one person grabbed a man and stabbed him once below the rib cage on one side. "The stab wound is four centimeters deep and put him in acute mortal danger," Greibe stated. Five individuals were arrested the day after the stabbing. One was released, but the remaining four were brought before a preliminary hearing and remanded in custody for aggravated assault. Police had been searching for the two men who, according to duty officer Nick Jensen of Nordsjællands Police, turned themselves in. With these two men now in custody, a total of six young men are being held for aggravated assault related to the incident. All are around 20 years old. Both defendants pleaded not guilty during Sunday's hearing. However, the judge found sufficient grounds to suspect the men of the charges against them. There is also a risk they could influence the investigation if released, leading to their remand. This influence could involve destroying evidence, coordinating testimonies, or warning others. While prosecutors often seek maximum four-week remand periods, Greibe requested only two days for these two men. Their detention will expire on the same date as the other four young men already in custody. Both men denied guilt and reserved the right to appeal the detention order.
