19th Party Congress delegate Xiao Jie expelled for serious violations

Xiao Jie, a former representative to the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and vice director of the Hainan Provincial People's Congress Standing Committee, has been expelled from the party for severe violations of discipline and law. The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission announced the decision on the 25th.

According to the announcement, Xiao Jie disregarded the central government's eight-point regulation on accepting gifts and attended banquets that could affect the impartial execution of public duties. She also improperly influenced cadre selection and appointment processes to benefit others and used her authority to secure advantages for her relatives. Furthermore, she was held responsible for exceeding subsidy limits in her unit.

The investigation also found that Xiao Jie, while holding a "top leader" position, extensively interfered in engineering projects and engaged in significant power-for-money transactions. She used her職務之便 (positional convenience) to profit for others in subsidy applications and project contracting, while illegally accepting substantial amounts of money and valuables.

Following discussions by the Standing Committee of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and approval from the Party Central Committee, Xiao Jie was expelled from the party. Her benefits were rescinded, her qualification as a delegate to the 8th Hainan Provincial Party Congress was terminated, and her illicit gains were confiscated. The case has been transferred to the procuratorate for legal prosecution.
