2027: Cleric urges Bourdex and Nkole to step aside and back Orji Kalu

A Baptist cleric has called on two candidates in the 2027 Abia North Senate contest to withdraw and support Senator Orji Uzor Kalu of the All Progressives Congress.

Reverend Samson Okoro Elekwa urged Labour Party candidate David Ogba Onuoha Bourdex and Uko Nkole of the NDC to back Kalu, arguing that the senator’s record of representation and development should persuade the district to stay its course. He pointed to projects and interventions in road construction, education and human-capital development.

Elekwa said the Senate should not be reduced to what he called clannish politics. He also criticised Bourdex’s candidacy and referred to controversies surrounding Bourdex’s time as caretaker chairman of Ohafia Local Government Area.

He compared Kalu’s tenure with the long service of former senators Enyinnaya Abaribe and the late Uche Chukwumerije, saying voters should not replace a senator who, in his assessment, had delivered for the district.

The cleric cited roads in Ndi Orieke in Ohafia Local Government Area and Amannagwu in Arochukwu Local Government Area, along with projects in Atan Abam, Alayi, Ezeukwu, Ndi Inya Abam, Isu, Umuzomgbo, Itumbauzo, Okoko Item, Nneato, Akanu Ohafia and Abia Ohafia. He said the interventions had helped farmers, traders and transporters, and added that Kalu’s investments in Abia could create jobs and widen economic opportunities.
