2027: Ex-lawmaker gets Bauchi ADC governorship ticket

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially endorsed former Senator Halliru Jika as its sole candidate for the 2027 Bauchi State governorship election. The affirmation exercise took place Friday at the Grand Conference Hall in Bauchi, conducted by the ADC Electoral Committee for the primaries.

Retired General Ishaya Bauka, Chairman of the Electoral Committee, stated that the process followed party guidelines and democratic procedures. He explained that the committee was tasked with overseeing the affirmation of Jika and other party candidates. The ADC also affirmed its three senatorial candidates unopposed through consensus: Garba Dahiru for Bauchi South, Abdul Ningi for Bauchi Central, and Nazif Gamawa for Bauchi North.

Accepting the nomination, Jika thanked party leaders, delegates, and supporters for their confidence. He pledged to lead the ADC to victory in Bauchi State, expressing optimism about the party's strong and united political structure. Jika, who previously represented Bauchi Central Senatorial District from 2019 to 2023, had contested the 2023 governorship election with the New Nigeria People’s Party before joining the ADC.

Bauchi State ADC Chairman, Shu’aibu Dankama, described Jika as an experienced politician with broad acceptability across the state, noting that his endorsement received unanimous backing from party stakeholders. He emphasized Jika's wide acceptance and experience as key to the party's prospects.
