2027: ‘I’m ready to die for Nigeria,’ Peter Obi tells supporters

Peter Obi told supporters in Port Harcourt that he was ready to die for the political cause they shared, urging them to resist intimidation ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 elections.

“I’m equally ready to die,” Obi said during a town hall meeting in Rivers State. He was responding to a supporter who had expressed a willingness to make sacrifices for the movement. The former Anambra State governor said Nigerians determined to change the country must remain active in campaigns and the electoral process.

Obi said credible elections could not depend only on politicians or electoral officials. Citizens, he argued, must defend their votes and resist attempts to manipulate the process through sustained civic participation. He expressed confidence that efforts to interfere with the 2027 elections would face stronger resistance, though he did not specify what forms that interference might take.

The NDC candidate also connected Nigeria’s economic and infrastructure problems to what he described as failures in leadership. He pointed to the country’s refinery challenges as an example, arguing that the condition of critical infrastructure reflects broader problems in policymaking and governance.

The Port Harcourt event formed part of Obi’s town hall series ahead of the presidential election. Participants questioned him about Nigeria’s political, economic and security challenges. Obi, who finished third in the 2023 presidential election, urged voters to use the 2027 contest to demand accountability and determine the country’s direction.
