2027: Labour Party chair urges politicians to shun divisive politics

The Labour Party has called on Nigeria's political class to prioritize issue-based campaigns, patriotism, and tolerance ahead of the 2027 general elections. National Chairman Senator Nenadi Usman emphasized the need to avoid politics that deepen divisions and undermine national unity, stating that elections should be contests of ideas, competence, and character, not battles against fellow Nigerians.

Usman's remarks, made on the sidelines of a birthday celebration for former Plateau State Governor Senator Jonah Jang, come as political parties begin consultations for the upcoming electoral cycle. She stressed that patriotism must always outweigh politics, as politicians must return to the same Nigeria after elections. The party advocates for leaders who unite rather than divide, inspire hope over fear, and build bridges across divides.
