2027: Makinde best man to defeat Tinubu, APM

The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has declared its support for Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde as the leading candidate for a unified opposition front in the 2027 presidential election. The party advocates for Makinde to lead a potential alliance aimed at challenging President Bola Tinubu. This endorsement comes ahead of an anticipated meeting of the G-100, a political pressure group focused on presenting a single opposition presidential candidate.

Without prejudice to the outcome of the consultations, Governor Makinde comes clearer as the best opposition consensus presidential candidate.

Abubakar Yusuf, the APM's National Publicity Secretary, called on other opposition presidential hopefuls to set aside personal ambitions for the greater goal of defeating Tinubu. He described Makinde as the politician with the most promising chance of unseating the incumbent. Yusuf acknowledged that efforts to forge a consensus candidate are facing hurdles, particularly with figures like Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi reportedly reluctant to cede their presidential aspirations.

Despite these challenges, Yusuf confirmed that discussions among opposition parties are advancing significantly. He stressed that the primary objective is to establish a robust political platform to counter the ruling All Progressives Congress. "Without prejudice to the outcome of the consultations, Governor Makinde comes clearer as the best opposition consensus presidential candidate," Yusuf stated, emphasizing that the desire for an alternative to the current administration should be paramount.
