2027: Nasarawa lawmaker warns against religious, ethnic politics

Solomon Akwashiki, a member of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly representing Lafia Central Constituency, has issued a strong warning against the divisive politics of religion and ethnicity as Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections. Akwashiki, who is also the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate for the Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency, believes that focusing on such primordial sentiments hinders the emergence of competent leaders capable of bringing tangible development to the populace.

During a meeting with various groups in Lafia, Akwashiki emphasized that elections should be decided on competence and merit, free from divisive sentiments. He pointed to his own track record over the past three years, citing the execution of numerous projects that have directly benefited his constituents. He decried the practice of some politicians exploiting religious differences for political gain, urging Nigerians to reject this approach.

Akwashiki stated that his ambition to represent the Lafia/Obi federal constituency would not distract him from his commitment to ongoing development initiatives aimed at improving the lives of his constituents, particularly those at the grassroots. He appealed for prayers and support from stakeholders to ensure his success.

Furthermore, the lawmaker assured the people of more empowerment programs and people-oriented projects should he be elected to the Green Chamber of the National Assembly. He concluded by encouraging constituents to maintain peace and tolerance towards one another, regardless of political, religious, or ethnic affiliations. The lawmaker hosted officials from several local development associations who came to express their support.
