2027: Obi and Ameh Demand Credible Polls and Urge Voters to Protect Their Ballots

Peter Obi and Peter Ameh are demanding credible elections in 2027, but Obi says his central concern is not the result itself. It is whether Nigerians can protect their votes and have them counted.

What worries me is the people and how they will protect their votes on election day.

The two politicians made the call in Ogugu, in Kogi State’s Olamaboro Local Government Area, during a thank-you tour for Ameh after he became the Nigeria Democratic Congress candidate for the Kogi East Senate race. Obi, the party’s presidential candidate, was warmly received by thousands of supporters.

Obi urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to resist any attempt to manipulate the process for the benefit of a political party. He also called for an issue-based campaign in which presidential candidates travel around Nigeria and ask people about the problems they face. He said future governance should focus on keeping children in school, protecting the environment and helping people earn a decent living.

Speaking to journalists, Obi said Nigeria needed visionary leadership to address worsening economic and social conditions. He pointed to hunger and poverty and said rural communities were living in painful circumstances despite the country’s large agricultural potential. He urged voters to choose leaders based on competence, capacity, character, compassion and commitment to turning Nigeria around.
