2027: Ogun chiefs, retirees back Yayi’s governorship bid

Chiefs and retirees in Ogun State have thrown their weight behind Senator Solomon Adeola, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the governorship in 2027. The endorsement came from the Ogun State Council of Baales and a group known as the Yayi Retirees Network during separate meetings in Abeokuta.

Across Ogun West and indeed the 20 local government areas of the state today, Senator Yayi has delivered life-changing projects including roads, schools, hospitals, markets, town halls, streetlights, water schemes, transformers, electricity projects and extensive empowerment programmes.

The Baales and retirees stated their decision stems from their assessment of Adeola's past performance and their confidence in his ability to lead Ogun State's development. Chief Tunji Falola, Chairman of the Ogun State Council of Baales, highlighted Adeola's "proven record of service" and "demonstrated commitment to community development." He noted that Senator Adeola, widely known as Yayi, has delivered numerous projects across the state, including roads, schools, hospitals, and empowerment programs. Falola also expressed appreciation for Adeola's respect towards traditional institutions.

Falola emphasized that the Baales, who are deeply connected to grassroots communities, represent all societal segments and are committed to mobilizing significant votes for Adeola. He described the senator as a philanthropist whose initiatives have provided relief to many. "As Baales, we don’t just follow any politician, but we are supporting Senator Adeola because of his good deeds in society and his support for us over the last four years," Falola said, pledging to ensure Adeola secures a winning margin exceeding the state's previous record of 450,000 votes.

The Baales appealed to Adeola to implement a uniform salary structure for all Baales and integrate them into his administration, particularly at the local government level, starting May 29, 2027. Representing the retirees, Pastor (Mrs.) Mary Adeosun, President of YAREN, stated that the network comprises over 1,865 retirees from local, state, and federal public services, with plans to expand to 7,000 members. The group believes Adeola is best positioned to drive the state's development.
