2027: Oyo elders urge politicians to ensure peaceful electoral campaigns

Elders in Nigeria's Oyo State have called for peaceful political campaigns leading up to the 2027 elections. The Oke-Ogun Council of Elders issued a communiqué after a meeting in Ibadan, emphasizing the need for tranquility as politicians seek public mandate.

On security, we commend retired Brig Gen Kunle Togun (retd), Primate Samson Ojoawo and Mr Sunday Adeyemo a.k.a Igboho, along with others, for their various efforts meant to ensure that the region is safe and secure for law-abiding citizens.

The council also reaffirmed its commitment to the region's development, security, and political advancement. They specifically commended efforts by retired Brig Gen Kunle Togun, Primate Samson Ojoawo, and Mr. Sunday Adeyemo (Igboho) for their contributions to regional security. The elders expressed hope for the swift release of individuals still in captivity, following the successful rescue of recent abductees in Oriire Local Government.

After appreciating the Federal and Oyo State Governments as well as security agencies on the successful rescue of the recent Oriire Local Government abductees, the Oke-Ogun elders express the hope that the governments, security agencies and other stakeholders will ensure that such a thing does not happen anymore.

Furthermore, the Oke-Ogun elders appreciated the Federal Government's establishment of the Federal University in Okeho and pleaded for adequate funding to ensure its smooth operation. They urged public officeholders to prioritize the region's best interests and reiterated the long-standing aspiration of the Oke-Ogun people to produce the state's governor. The council plans to engage with political aspirants from the region to discuss their development plans for Oke-Ogun.
