2027: PDP, 15 APC Guber Aspirants Negotiate Power-sharing in Kwara

Political maneuvering is intensifying in Kwara State ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) actively seeking alliances with disgruntled members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The PDP has reportedly mandated former Senate President Bukola Saraki to engage in discussions with 15 aggrieved gubernatorial aspirants from the APC. These aspirants, while pledging support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's re-election in 2027, have vowed not to support the APC's state-level candidates. This internal dissent within the APC stems from dissatisfaction with the party's leadership and the conduct of its primaries.

The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the 15 aggrieved gubernatorial aspirants of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state have commenced negotiations on the sharing of elective positions ahead of 2027 elections.

Sources indicate that a committee has been formed to negotiate the sharing of elective positions. The PDP has proposed allocating six state House of Assembly seats, two senatorial tickets, and two House of Representatives slots. However, the aggrieved APC aspirants are reportedly demanding more, seeking 10 state House of Assembly seats, two senatorial tickets, and two House of Representatives tickets.

Spokesperson for the aggrieved APC aspirants, former Senator Yahaya Oloriegbe, alleged that Governor AbdulRazaq's leadership has sidelined stakeholders and deepened divisions. He warned that the crisis could jeopardize the APC's electoral prospects in 2027 unless the national leadership intervenes. The group, "Oto Ge Progressives," was formed to advocate for fairness and transparency, claiming many party faithful have been excluded from political decisions and subjected to intimidation.
