2027 Polls: Kano Emirate, Islamic Scholars Call for National Prayers, Peaceful Election

Ahead of Nigeria's 2027 general elections, the Kano Emirate and Islamic scholars are urging citizens to intensify prayers for a peaceful and credible electoral process. They emphasize that the nation's stability hinges on the ability of both citizens and leaders to adopt tolerance, discipline, and responsible conduct, while actively rejecting intolerance and violence.

The call for heightened prayer and moral conduct was made during a Qur'anic graduation ceremony. Traditional and religious leaders used the occasion to stress the importance of a strong moral upbringing for Nigerian children as the country approaches another politically sensitive election cycle. The ceremony marked the completion of the recitation and memorization of the Holy Qur'an.

As we approach the 2027 general elections, we pray that the children will continue to pray for the country and that Nigeria will have a successful, peaceful and credible election.

Representing the Emir of Kano, Awal Ado Bayero, the Sadauki of Kano, congratulated the graduates. He charged them to view their Quranic studies as the commencement of a lifelong commitment to upholding the values they have learned. Bayero highlighted the potential of Quranic teachings to foster peaceful coexistence, good character, and responsible citizenship, particularly relevant as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 elections.

Speakers at the event, including Katsina State First Lady Dr. Aisha Bala Muhammed and Hajia Abi Hafsat Abubakar Y. Suleiman, wife of the Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, echoed these sentiments. They linked the moral education of children to the broader national challenge of building a peaceful and secure Nigeria. The Principal of the Abuja National Mosque Academy, Dr. Shehu Usman Mohamad, added that Quranic education aims not just for recitation and memorization, but for raising Muslims who can apply its teachings to daily life.
