2027: Public inspection of candidates’ credentials begins Saturday in Lagos - INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State, Nigeria, is set to commence the public display of candidates' personal particulars for the 2027 presidential, senatorial, and House of Representatives elections. This crucial exercise, scheduled to begin on Saturday, August 1, 2026, aligns with Section 29 of the Electoral Act 2022.

The commission announced that the display will take place at its Lagos State office in Sabo-Yaba and at the respective Local Government Area offices within the affected constituencies. This initiative provides an opportunity for the public to scrutinize the credentials, personal information, and affidavits submitted by candidates seeking elective positions, as contained in Form EC9.

INEC emphasized the importance of public engagement, urging political parties, candidates, stakeholders, and the general public to utilize this period to inspect the submitted documents. The commission also clarified that individuals who have objections to the information provided by any candidate, such as claims of false declarations or forged documents, can pursue legal redress in accordance with the Electoral Act.

This public display is a statutory requirement designed to foster transparency, accountability, and credible elections.
