2027: Tinubu presents Shettima APC VP nomination certificate

President Bola Tinubu has officially presented Vice President Kashim Shettima with the certificate confirming his nomination as the All Progressives Congress (APC) vice-presidential candidate for the upcoming 2027 general election. The symbolic ceremony took place at the State House in Abuja.

The presentation follows the APC's formal submission of nomination forms for both Tinubu and Shettima to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). This action aligns with INEC's electoral timetable, which sets deadlines for the submission of candidate forms. Initially, the deadline was July 11, 2026, but it was later extended to July 14, 2026.

According to reports, the nomination forms were submitted to the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, on behalf of the President by his Special Adviser on Political Matters, Ibrahim Masari. The APC, through its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, has expressed strong confidence in its ability to retain power in the 2027 polls with Tinubu and Shettima leading the ticket.

Tinubu secured the APC's presidential nomination at the party's primary on May 23, garnering 10,999,162 votes against his sole challenger, Stanley Osifo, who received 16,503 votes. The 2027 presidential election is scheduled to be held on January 16, in accordance with the revised electoral timetable stipulated by the Electoral Act 2026.
