2027: Tinubu settles for Shettima as party beats INEC deadline

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially submitted the presidential and vice-presidential nomination forms for President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, effectively ending speculation about the running mate for the 2027 general election. The party submitted the documents to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) just before the July 11, 2026 deadline.

APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda declared the party's confidence in securing a significant victory, projecting over 12 million votes from party members alone. He highlighted the administration's programs, including student loans and infrastructure projects, as factors that will bolster support. Yilwatda urged party officials and supporters to actively publicize the government's achievements to mobilize voters.

Today is a reflection of the wishes of over 12 million of our members of APC who overwhelmingly voted Mr President as their candidate to flag off the party candidature in the 2027 presidential election.

The ceremony, held in Abuja, was attended by a large contingent of APC leaders, including governors, deputy governors, and members of the National Working Committee. The nomination forms were presented on behalf of President Tinubu by his Special Adviser on Political Matters, Hon. Ibrahim Masari. Yilwatda asserted that the party faces no threats from opposition propaganda and is assured of success in the upcoming election.
