2027 World Cup Mission Launched: DFB Women Secure Ticket to Brazil

The German women's national football team has officially qualified for the 2027 World Cup, set to be held in Brazil, following a decisive 2-0 victory over Norway.

The qualification match, played in front of 33,425 fans in Cologne, saw Germany secure their spot as group winners with goals from debutant Marie Müller in the 18th minute and Carlotta Wamser in the 27th minute.

Coach Christian Wück celebrated the team's early achievement, stating, "It was our big goal." He expressed pride in the squad, adding, "From now on, we'll stop thinking negatively." His players shared the enthusiasm, with Lea Schüller noting, "I'm incredibly happy. You can see in the team that we are simply happy."

Müller, a 25-year-old playing for US club Portland, had a dream debut, not only scoring the opening goal but also impressing defensively. She replaced captain Giulia Gwinn, who is recovering from shoulder surgery.

Wamser, playing in an unfamiliar left-back position, initially struggled defensively but redeemed herself offensively by scoring Germany's second goal. Despite some defensive lapses, the team's overall performance was strong, characterized by commitment and a forward-oriented approach. Midfielders Elisa Senß and Sjoeke Nüsken controlled the tempo, while Klara Bühl, Linda Dallmann, and Jule Brand added creative sparks.

Although striker Lea Schüller did not score, she put in a significant effort, marking her return to the starting lineup since the previous summer's European Championship match against Sweden. Norway's chances were limited, with goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger making key saves.
