209 martyrs' remains recovered at Ho Chi Minh City park after 30 days

Vietnamese authorities have successfully recovered 209 martyrs' remains at Le Thi Rieng Park in Ho Chi Minh City, marking a significant milestone after 30 days of intensive excavation. The operation, which began on June 23rd, has focused on a specific area within the park, requiring the careful removal of over 300 cubic meters of soil.

The recovery effort is part of a broader national campaign to locate, repatriate, and identify the remains of fallen soldiers from the Vietnam War. The military command of Ho Chi Minh City has mobilized excavators and dump trucks to expedite the process, ensuring thoroughness and precision to avoid missing any remains or artifacts.

The 500-day and night campaign to accelerate the search, collection, and identification of martyrs' remains is not only a special political task but also a 'command from the heart.'

Of the 209 sets of remains found, 183 were buried individually, while 26 were discovered in six mass graves. The operation has been praised by Lieutenant General Tran Vinh Ngoc, Political Commissar of the 7th Military Region, who described the mission as a "special political task" and a "command from the heart."

General Ngoc commended the dedication and unity of the personnel involved, highlighting their commitment to fulfilling both regular and urgent duties. He noted that as of August 4th, forces under the 7th Military Region had recovered 638 sets of remains, achieving 42.58% of the campaign's overall goal. The ongoing efforts underscore Vietnam's commitment to honoring its war dead and providing closure for their families.
