21-Year-Old Driver Lands Car in Lake Wörthersee

A dramatic incident occurred on the southern shore of Lake Wörthersee in Austria when a 21-year-old driver lost control of his vehicle. The car broke through a fence before plunging into the lake near Auen, in the municipality of Schiefling, district of Klagenfurt-Land. According to police reports, excessive speed is believed to be the cause of the accident.

The driver, a Croatian national, was able to rescue himself from the water and reach the shore. He sustained minor injuries and was subsequently transported to the hospital in Villach for treatment. The vehicle was later recovered from the lake by emergency services.

Adding to the circumstances, an alcohol test conducted on the driver returned a negative result, ruling out intoxication as a factor in the incident. The response effort involved approximately 70 personnel from both the fire brigade and water rescue services, highlighting the complexity and scale of the operation to secure the scene and retrieve the submerged vehicle.
