22 villages in Pakistan's Multan district partially submerged by floodwaters

Floodwaters from the River Chenab have inundated at least 22 villages in Pakistan's Multan district, submerging them under three to four feet of water. The deluge has forced thousands of residents to evacuate their homes and relocate to safer areas with their cattle.

The rising waters have caused substantial agricultural losses, submerging cotton, fodder, and other standing crops across large tracts of land. According to the district administration's report, 138 out of 545 villages in the district are considered flood-prone, with 22 now partially inundated.

The flood wave in the River Chenab had receded to around 110,000 cusecs, but the district administration would remain on high alert until the river fully returned to normal.

While the district administration has not issued formal evacuation orders and no villages are categorized as severely affected, residents are urged to remain vigilant. Water levels are reportedly receding, and the situation is under close monitoring. Civil society activists noted that local protective bunds, built by residents to safeguard their crops and homes, were washed away by the floodwaters.

Multan Deputy Commissioner Dr. Faisal Saleem stated that the flood wave in the River Chenab has decreased but emphasized that the administration will maintain a high alert. He advised citizens to rely on official government sources for updates and to disregard rumors. Separately, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority reported a low-level flood continuing on the Indus River at Kalabagh and Taunsa, with water flows in other major rivers remaining within normal limits.
