22-year-old arrested with over 10kg of drugs at Singapore checkpoint

Singaporean authorities arrested a 22-year-old Malaysian man at the Woodlands Checkpoint after discovering more than 10 kilograms of illicit drugs hidden in his car. The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) reported the seizure on Tuesday, detailing that the man arrived on Saturday morning and was directed for enhanced checks.

During the inspection, officers found approximately 8.6 kilograms of cannabis and 1.5 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, also known as "Ice." The drugs were discovered in a box within the boot of the Malaysia-registered vehicle. The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) was alerted and conducted further searches, leading to the discovery of additional controlled substances.

The total street value of the seized drugs is estimated to be over S$361,000 (US$281,600). The ICA highlighted the severity of drug trafficking offenses, noting that individuals convicted of importing or exporting more than 250 grams of methamphetamine or 500 grams of cannabis could face the death penalty. Investigations into the case are currently underway.
