23 Rescued After Being Stranded for Hours on Hamburg Fairground Ride

A malfunction on a chain carousel ride at the Hamburger Dom fairground left 23 passengers stranded for three hours at a height of about 30 meters. The incident occurred late Tuesday evening, prompting a significant deployment of police and fire services.

The amusement ride reportedly stopped abruptly due to a technical defect. Emergency crews were on standby to manage the situation and prevent panic among those suspended in the air. The fairground, located on Heiligengeistfeld in Hamburg's St. Pauli district, is a popular attraction that typically runs for five weeks.

Shortly after midnight, operators managed to restart the ride, allowing the stranded passengers to disembark safely without requiring assistance from the fire department. All individuals were reported to be unharmed.

Following the incident, authorities have stated that the Technical Inspection Association (TÜV) will investigate the cause of the malfunction. The Hamburger Dom, which hosts the affected ride, is scheduled to conclude its current run on Sunday. Last year, the fair attracted over 1.3 million visitors.
