25,000 Romanians await validation for e-SănătateaMea as government prepares alternative

Romania’s new e-SănătateaMea health platform has accumulated about 25,000 pending identity-validation requests just two days after its launch, prompting the government to prepare emergency measures and an alternative enrollment route.

Interim Deputy Prime Minister Oana Gheorghiu acknowledged that users faced major difficulties enrolling through ROeID from the first day. The platform, launched by the National Health Insurance House, is intended to give citizens one digital access point for medical appointments, existing bookings, available medical information and test results, as well as identification of healthcare providers.

“Digitalisation of public services is absolutely necessary, but it must be carried out by putting people and their experience in using these services first,” Gheorghiu said. She added that authorities had urgently brought together all institutions involved and identified ways to accelerate validation of the digital identities awaiting approval.

The government said the Digitalisation Authority of Romania currently has 40 trained employees handling validation. It plans to add 19 more staff and eliminate the outstanding ROeID requests in approximately one week, while maintaining checks designed to prevent fraud and identity theft. The current flow averages about 10,000 new requests a day.

Authorities are also working on an alternative enrollment method that they expect to put into operation in the coming weeks. In the medium term, the government wants to automate validation so that ROeID can independently check and resolve enrollment requests. The platform is functioning, but officials said its features will be activated fully through a cautious, sequential approach.
