3 dead in 10 days: Two terror attacks rock J&K despite high security alert

Jammu and Kashmir has experienced a resurgence of terror attacks, with two incidents in approximately 10 days resulting in the deaths of two non-local laborers and a police head constable. These attacks have renewed focus on the region's security, especially following a high alert.

The first incident occurred last week in Anantnag town, where Head Constable Aashiq Hussain Qureshi was killed. Qureshi, a member of the IR 3rd Battalion, was on duty for the Amarnath Yatra security. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Kumar Sinha condemned the attack, stating that those responsible would face justice.

Shortly after, on Saturday, two migrant laborers from Chhattisgarh were killed in a terrorist attack in the Kulgam district. The terrorists opened fire on them at a brick kiln. One laborer died immediately, while the other succumbed to his injuries during treatment. This attack marked the second in south Kashmir within two weeks, despite heightened security measures.

These recent events echo the brutality of the Pahalgam killings in April 2025, where 26 civilians, primarily Hindu tourists, were targeted and killed by Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists. The current attacks, though smaller in scale, underscore persistent security challenges in the region.
