3 Injured in Fire at Kemayoran Market Area

A fire in the densely populated residential area of Pasar Jiung Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, on Monday night left three people injured and displaced around 300 families. The blaze, which started around 9:05 PM WIB, required the deployment of 35 fire engines and 175 personnel to extinguish.

Two of the injured, identified as Puput and Dika, are undergoing treatment at RS Hermina Kemayoran. A third victim, Suparno, has been referred to RSCM. The fire affected approximately 250 semi-permanent buildings and displaced roughly 500 individuals.

Authorities, in coordination with the Mobile Brigade of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, have set up temporary shelters in the Kebon Kosong area for those affected. A field kitchen has also been established to assist with the needs of the displaced residents.

The fire was finally brought under control and declared extinguished around 7 hours later, at 4:15 AM WIB on Tuesday. During the firefighting efforts, residents were seen evacuating their belongings to the Jusuf Hamka Field. One resident described the panic as the flames spread rapidly towards his home, especially as his wife was ill.
