30 killed, over 3,000 injured in Morocco traffic accidents

Thirty people lost their lives and 3,026 others were injured in traffic accidents within Morocco's urban areas during the week of July 20 to 26. Of those injured, 125 sustained severe wounds, according to data from the Directorate General of National Security.

The accidents occurred across 2,208 recorded incidents. The Directorate General of National Security identified the primary causes, listed in order of frequency, as driver inattention, failure to respect right-of-way, loss of control, pedestrian inattention, excessive speeding, improper lane changes, and driving under the influence.

In response to these incidents, security forces registered 49,357 traffic violations. They also issued 7,659 official reports forwarded to the public prosecutor's office and collected 41,698 settlement fines.

The total amount collected from these fines reached over 9.2 million dirhams. Additionally, 5,031 vehicles were impounded, 7,659 documents were confiscated, and 420 vehicles were temporarily suspended from use.
