300 from Pingtung Join Taipei Protest March; Some KMT Councilors Absent

Around 300 individuals from Pingtung traveled to Taipei to participate in a protest march on Ketagalan Boulevard. The event was organized by the Kuomintang (KMT) party, which initiated the demonstration under the slogan 'I am human, I oppose drugs.' The Pingtung contingent included participants from six tour buses organized by the party, supplemented by those who drove themselves.

Despite the significant turnout from Pingtung, not all local KMT councilors joined the march. Several cited the considerable travel distance as a reason for their absence. Some councilors also expressed reservations, noting that the current election period is packed with local constituent visits, making it difficult to reconcile central political activities with their regional duties. They questioned the necessity of the march given these constraints.

KMT Pingtung County headquarters arranged two tour buses for party members, with two additional buses used for the KMT's national congress. Including privately arranged transport, the total number of Pingtung participants was estimated at 300. County councilor Huang Ming-hsien and Pingtung city representative Fu Chien-hsiung were among those who saw off the participants at the assembly point.
