303 Kilos of 'Premium' Marijuana Seized at Paraguay-Brazil Integration Bridge

Paraguayan authorities have intercepted a significant shipment of 303 kilograms of high-potency "Premium" marijuana at the Integration Bridge, a new border crossing connecting Paraguay and Brazil. This marks the first drug seizure on the Paraguayan side of the bridge since its opening.

The illicit cargo was concealed within the roof of a medium-sized truck's body, which was preparing to cross into Brazil. The discovery was made after a scanner detected organic material in the vehicle's upper structure. Officials from the National Directorate of Tax Revenue alerted the Paraguayan Navy and the Public Ministry, leading to the inspection.

This is the first drug seizure registered on the Paraguayan side of this border crossing since its opening.

During the inspection, 120 vacuum-sealed packages containing the "Premium" marijuana were found. The driver, identified as Fernando Andrés Delgado Vera from Curuguaty, was detained. He stated he was unemployed and had been contacted by a third party in Ciudad del Este to transport the vehicle to Brazil for a payment of 500,000 Paraguayan guaranis. Delgado Vera claims he was unaware the vehicle was carrying drugs.

Authorities have seized Delgado Vera's cell phone for analysis, hoping to identify other members of the drug trafficking organization. The "Premium" marijuana, reportedly trafficked from the United States, is characterized by significantly higher THC levels, ranging from 15% to 20% or more, compared to traditional marijuana's 2% to 4%. This higher concentration is associated with more intense effects and potential adverse psychological reactions.
