33 cyclosporiasis cases reported in Mexico; Taylor Farms packing plant cleared of parasite link | El Universal (MX)

Mexico's Ministry of Health has confirmed 33 cases of cyclosporiasis, a parasitic intestinal illness, distributed across various states. These cases are under continuous epidemiological surveillance. The ministry stated that investigations into the Taylor Farms facility in Guanajuato, initially suspected by U.S. authorities as a source for the outbreak, found no evidence of the parasite Cyclospora cayetanensis. This finding comes as the United States reports over 18,000 confirmed cases and two associated deaths. Mexican health authorities collaborated with U.S. counterparts, conducting verification visits, document reviews, product traceability, and sample collection at the identified facility. Analyses conducted by both Mexican and U.S. health authorities have not detected the presence of the parasite in collected samples. The UK's Health Security Agency also issued an alert for cases in tourists who visited the Riviera Maya. In response, Mexico's COFEPRIS and Directorate General of Epidemiology inspected 16 hotels in Quintana Roo, collecting samples of fruits, vegetables, and water for specialized analysis, with results pending.
