33-year-old convicted to indefinite secure psychiatric confinement

A 33-year-old man received an indefinite sentence at Sikringen, a secure psychiatric facility, on Friday at the Court in Kolding. He was deemed mentally ill at the time of the offenses and continues to be, according to assessments from a senior doctor at Sikringen and the Forensic Psychiatry Board.

The man confessed to murdering a 58-year-old man and attempting to kill a young couple. Both incidents occurred in Vejle on the night of November 25, 2024, about an hour apart. The 33-year-old accepted the verdict.

He was driven by revenge, and he heard a voice that told him that he would find peace if he took revenge on two people.

During the court proceedings, the man, described as having a long beard and hair tied in a ponytail, appeared with his hands secured by a transport belt. He offered few verbal responses, instead relying on a statement from a pre-trial hearing in June. In that statement, he claimed revenge as a motive, stating a voice told him he would find peace by avenging himself against two individuals.

Nothing in the investigation suggests that this happened.

One target was the 58-year-old victim, whom the 33-year-old believed had abused him as a child. However, prosecutor Lone Hesselmark stated that no investigation evidence supported this claim, nor did any indicate the 58-year-old had pedophilic tendencies. The other individual the 33-year-old sought revenge against was the male victim of the attempted murder, whom he accused of hitting him with a bottle at a party years prior. Police found no evidence to corroborate this accusation either.
