34 Katsina Assembly Aspirants Defect to PDP

A significant political shift has occurred in Katsina State, Nigeria, as no fewer than 34 aspirants for the House of Assembly have defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The defectors formally joined the PDP at a reception held in Katsina on Tuesday evening.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Hon. Ahmad Yusuf Jaguma articulated the reasons behind their departure from the ADC. He described their decision as a result of disillusionment stemming from "injustice and poor leadership" within their former party. Jaguma stated that the aspirants had "thought deeply and discovered that the PDP is the solution," characterizing their move as abandoning a "disorganized journey" to return to what they consider their "original home."

The defectors also revealed that their initial decision to join the ADC was based on the expectation that Senator Yakubu Lado, a prominent PDP figure in Katsina State, would also switch parties. When this did not materialize, they opted to retrace their steps and rejoin the PDP. This move underscores the influence of key political figures in shaping party affiliations within the state.

Hon. Nuraddeen Amadi Kurfi, the Katsina State PDP Chairman, welcomed the defectors, viewing their return as further evidence that the PDP is a welcoming political home for those seeking fairness and justice. He highlighted the party's internal unity and democratic practices, noting that no members had left the PDP since its primary elections. Senator Yakubu Lado, the 2027 PDP governorship candidate, assured the new members of equal treatment and reiterated that the PDP's doors are open to all who feel disappointed or wronged by other parties. Lado expressed confidence that more politicians would soon join the PDP, as the party is reportedly in discussions with several other prominent figures across Katsina State.
