35-yr-old man dies in road accident on Pune–Mumbai Expressway ‘Missing Link’

A fatal road accident on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway 'Missing Link' claimed the life of a 35-year-old man and left six others injured. The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, around 1:20 AM, within a tunnel on the connecting link section of the expressway.

The deceased, identified as Tushar Bhumkar, a resident of Wakad, was traveling in a Toyota Fortuner SUV. According to highway safety patrol officials, the SUV collided with the rear of an Eicher tempo loaded with vegetables. The impact was severe, causing both vehicles to overturn.

Preliminary investigations by the Highway Safety Patrol (HSP) indicate that excessive speed was a primary factor in the crash. Officials stated that the Fortuner appeared to be traveling at high speed and may have lost control after attempting to overtake the tempo. The occupants of the tempo also sustained injuries, though described as minor.

Emergency services, including Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation Limited (MSRDC) ambulances, transported the injured to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities confirmed that traffic flow on the main Pune-Mumbai Expressway remained unaffected by the accident. Further investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause and sequence of events leading to the collision.
