37 Nigerians repatriated from Türkiye arrive Abuja

Nigeria's National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has facilitated the return of 37 Nigerian nationals from Türkiye, who arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. The repatriation, coordinated with the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is part of the government's ongoing commitment to ensuring the safe and orderly return of its citizens abroad.

Upon arrival, the returnees were met with a comprehensive reception process managed by NEMA's Abuja Operations Office. This involved a collaboration of various government agencies and humanitarian partners to ensure a dignified and humane welcome. The process included essential steps such as documentation, profiling, and medical screening.

Pharm. Zakari Abubakar, Head of NEMA’s Abuja Operations Office, emphasized the agency's dedication to the welfare of returning Nigerians. He stated, "At NEMA, our priority is to ensure that every returning Nigerian is treated with dignity, compassion and respect." Abubakar encouraged the returnees to embrace the opportunity for a new beginning and to remain law-abiding, highlighting available government support programs for their successful reintegration.

The successful operation underscored the importance of inter-agency cooperation. NEMA acknowledged the critical role played by the Nigerian Immigration Service, the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, airport authorities, and other security agencies. This repatriation follows similar efforts, including the return of 123 Nigerians from Algeria and 181 from Libya earlier in the year, all facilitated under programs aimed at safe return and reintegration.
