A group of 37 Polish tourists experienced a moment of adrenaline during their Saturday excursion in Romania's Călimani Mountains. Their hike near the Călimani Quarry in Suceava county took an unexpected turn when they encountered a mother bear with her cub on the trail.

The presence of the wild animals was first spotted by a mountain gendarme who was off-duty and hiking in the area. Recognizing the potential risk to the tourists, he promptly contacted his colleagues for assistance. Responding swiftly, the gendarmes arrived and safely escorted the entire group of Polish visitors back to their bus.

In the course of today, a group of 37 Polish tourists was safely brought down from the mountain by the Vatra Dornei mountain gendarmes, after a bear accompanied by its cub was observed on the route they were traversing, near the Călimani Quarry in Suceava county.

According to a statement posted on the Romanian Gendarmerie's Facebook page, the tourists confirmed they had seen the bear and her cub before the authorities intervened. The incident serves as a reminder from local authorities about safety protocols when encountering wildlife. They urge the public not to approach bears, attempt to photograph or feed them, and to immediately report any sightings to emergency services by calling 112.

The intervention took place after a gendarme, who was off-duty hiking, observed the wild animal near the trail. Seeing the tourists in the area, to eliminate any danger, he requested the support of his colleagues who were on duty.
