38-Year-Old Woman Arrested Over Fire in Saronida

A 38-year-old woman was arrested by investigators from Greece’s fire service over a fire that broke out in Saronida, Attica, on September 4, 2026.

The fire service said the blaze began at about 4:30 p.m. when a car caught fire before spreading to nearby land. It burned roughly two acres.

Authorities said that from January 1 through September 4, they had issued 763 administrative fines totaling 1,277,352.72 euros and made 331 arrests under the fast-track procedure. Of those arrests, 294, or 88.82 percent, involved negligence, while 37, or 11.18 percent, involved intent.

The Directorate for Arson Crimes and the fire service’s investigative units remain on heightened operational readiness, carrying out inspections and assigning responsibility when violations are found. The fire service reiterated that human negligence continues to cause the overwhelming majority of fires and urged compliance with fire-safety measures and avoidance of work that could create sparks or ignition.
