39 Drivers Arrested for Drug Use in Perak Operation

Perak Road Transport Department (JPJ) officers arrested 39 drivers for testing positive for drugs during an integrated operation that began on July 1. The majority of drivers who tested positive were for goods vehicles, with ketum, methamphetamine, morfin, and ganja detected.

Mohammad Yusoff Abustan, director of JPJ Perak, stated that 153 drivers were screened. Of the 39 who tested positive, 18 used ketum, 16 used methamphetamine, three used morfin, and two used ganja. Thirty-eight were goods vehicle drivers, and one was a public service vehicle driver.

In addition to drug offenses, 14 Competent Driving Licenses (CDL) and 13 Goods Vehicle Licenses (GDL) were seized. No action was taken against Public Service Vehicle (PSV) licenses. Drivers who test positive will have their GDL and PSV licenses suspended until the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) completes its investigation. Vocational licenses will be suspended for three months.

JPJ Perak will also take action against transport companies that fail to ensure their drivers comply with licensing conditions and are drug-free. Audits of relevant companies may be conducted to ensure compliance with safety and driver management requirements. JPJ Perak will not compromise on safety, and operations will continue to ensure only qualified and drug-free drivers operate commercial vehicles.
