3rd Jean Rouch International Festival in Tunis: A Vibrant Look at the Contemporary

Tunis is currently hosting the 3rd edition of the Jean Rouch International Festival, an event dedicated to showcasing compelling contemporary documentary cinema. Organized by the Institut de recherche sur le Maghreb contemporain (Irmc), the festival, themed "Hors les murs," has commenced with a strong program that emphasizes critical engagement and insightful storytelling. The opening featured an exceptional screening of "The Battle of Algiers," accompanied by a masterclass led by the renowned Algerian documentarian Malek Ben Smaïl, who served as the guest of honor.

This year's festival, held at the Africa cinema hall from April 15 to 19, 2026, continues its tradition of privileging debates and documentaries that delve into the lives of peoples, their struggles against oppression, their acts of revolt, and the complex dynamics of North-South relations.
