400 youths begin mandatory military service in Lithuania

Around 400 young Lithuanians have commenced their mandatory initial military service, marking a significant step in bolstering the nation's defense readiness. The first days of service are dedicated to acquainting the new recruits with military routines and conditions. They will be issued uniforms and equipment and introduced to their direct commanders. For the initial three months, these soldiers will train at the Grand Duke Algirdas Military Training Regiment in Rukla. Here, they will participate in a basic soldier course designed to impart fundamental military skills. The curriculum includes tactical basics, weapons handling, topography, first aid, and communication procedures, equipping each soldier with essential competencies. Upon completing this foundational course, the recruits will transition to the Grand Duke Butigeidis Dragoon Battalion. At this unit, they will be assigned specific roles within their respective departments, preparing them for more specialized duties. The military emphasizes that the nine-month service period is designed to cultivate military preparedness, discipline, responsibility, leadership abilities, initiative, and teamwork. These qualities are deemed valuable not only for military service but also for success in civilian life. Completing this mandatory service will add these individuals to Lithuania's trained reserve force, ensuring they are ready to contribute to national defense tasks if needed. The Grand Duke Butigeidis Dragoon Battalion is a key combat unit within the Lithuanian Land Force, tasked with preparing and maintaining combat-ready soldiers and units capable of executing national defense missions.
