41 Danes received assistance during Europe's summer wildfires

Danish travelers faced disruptions this summer due to widespread wildfires across Europe, with the assistance organization SOS International reporting it helped 41 individuals. The incidents primarily affected popular tourist destinations including Spain, France, Greece, and Italy.

Alm. Brand, an insurance company partnered with SOS International, stated that the majority of inquiries concerned advice for travelers situated near the fire zones or those experiencing uncertainty about the evolving situations. The stress and disruption caused by smoke, flames, and sirens impacted the holiday experience for many.

In some cases, SOS International assisted clients in finding alternative hotel accommodations when they were forced to leave their original lodgings due to the encroaching fires. However, the organization noted that any travelers requiring evacuation were already safely relocated by local authorities before contacting SOS International.

Karin Tranberg, divisional director for Travelcare at SOS International, acknowledged that while the number of cases directly impacted by the fires was not overwhelming, the sensory and psychological effects of the events were significant, causing stress and uncertainty for Danish tourists.

Even though we have not had an overwhelming number of cases where Danish travelers have been directly affected by the fires, there is no doubt that the smell of smoke, the sight of flames, and the sound of sirens affect the holiday experience and cause stress and uncertainty.
