50 Sinar Jaya buses destroyed in massive Bekasi depot fire

A devastating fire ripped through the Sinar Jaya bus depot in Cikarang Barat, Bekasi, West Java, on Tuesday, August 18, reducing 50 buses to ashes. The inferno, which began in the early morning hours, quickly spread through the parking area, consuming the vehicles.

Security personnel first alerted the Bekasi Fire and Rescue Department after noticing the blaze during their patrol. According to reports, the fire appeared to have started in the central section of the bus parking lot and escalated rapidly. The affected buses were reportedly those that were no longer operational or deemed unfit for service.

Firefighters battled the blaze for approximately five hours. They encountered significant challenges, including the need to source water from Kalimalang, a considerable distance away. The operation was further complicated by the proximity of residential areas, forcing firefighters to divide their efforts between the depot and the adjacent settlement to mitigate heat radiation and prevent further spread.

Despite the intensity of the fire, which spread across an 800-square-meter area, and the challenges faced by the fire department, the blaze was eventually brought under control. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported in the incident. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by local police, and authorities are still assessing the total material losses incurred.
