50-year-old former biathlete Torbeluts wins steeplechase medal at Estonian championships

Indrek Torbeluts, a former biathlete and current biathlon coach, has achieved a surprising result at the Estonian Athletics Championships, securing a bronze medal in the 3000m steeplechase. Torbeluts, who celebrated his 50th birthday in April, competed in the challenging steeplechase event for the first time at the national level.

Previously, Torbeluts had tested his mettle in the 1500m race at Estonian championships. His decision to enter the longer and more demanding 3000m steeplechase, a race featuring hurdles and water jumps, has drawn attention. His performance highlights his continued athletic capability despite his age and his transition to a coaching role.

The men's 3000m steeplechase podium at the championships presented a notable generational contrast. The gold medal was won by 18-year-old Remi Edur, while Torbeluts, at 50, claimed the bronze medal. This achievement underscores Torbeluts's enduring fitness and competitive spirit.
