51 Flights at Kualanamu Adjusted After Mount Anak Krakatau Ash Disrupts Jakarta Operations

Fifty-one flights at Kualanamu International Airport in Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, were adjusted on Sunday after volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau disrupted flight operations in Jakarta.

PT Angkasa Pura Aviasi, which manages Kualanamu, said the figure remained provisional. Mohamad Hikmat Hidayat, the company's corporate affairs manager, said the changes affected flights arriving at and departing from the airport.

The provisional data is that 51 flights to and from Kualanamu have undergone adjustments.

The disruption followed the closure of Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport and Halim Perdanakusuma Airport. Both airports were affected by ash from the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau in the waters of the Sunda Strait, off South Lampung in Lampung province.

The situation has an impact on flights at Kualanamu International Airport, particularly flights connected with CGK and HLP.

The impact was especially felt on Kualanamu routes linked to the two Jakarta airports. One international flight from Amsterdam to Soekarno-Hatta was diverted and landed at Kualanamu.

Despite the changes, Hikmat said Kualanamu's overall operations continued normally. The airport is coordinating with AirNav Indonesia, airlines, airport authorities and other stakeholders while monitoring the situation. Passengers were advised to check their flight status and schedules with their airlines before traveling to the airport. The number of affected flights could change as operating conditions and airline policies develop.
