62 victims of ferry fire arrive in Surabaya, search continues

A total of 62 victims from the KMP Mutiara Sentosa II ferry fire arrived at Surabaya's Tanjung Perak Port on Tuesday afternoon, marking the final group evacuated from Masalembu Island. The ferry, which caught fire in northern Sumenep waters, had previously seen its passengers temporarily sheltered on Masalembu.

Upon arrival at the Gapura Surya Nusantara terminal, the evacuees, including adults, men, women, and children, were met by a joint medical and rescue team. Some appeared unwell and required assistance, with several using wheelchairs. They were directed to a waiting area where they received immediate medical attention and food.

Mohammad Syafii, Head of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), confirmed the updated total number of rescued individuals to 238, an increase from the previous day's count of 233. He assured that search and rescue operations at the incident site continue, with the KN SAR 249 Permadi vessel actively involved. The ongoing operations are coordinated by the Basarnas Command Center.
