643 people transform into artifacts for 'National Museum Makeup Play'; 50 teams advance to finals

A remarkable 643 individuals embraced history by transforming into cultural artifacts for the 'National Museum Makeup Play' event, a unique competition that reinterprets Korea's rich heritage through artistic expression.

The event, hosted by the National Museum of Korea, saw a surge in participation, with 50 teams selected for the finals. This year's competition drew over three times the number of participants compared to the previous year, highlighting a growing public interest in engaging with cultural heritage in creative ways. Participants showcased their interpretations of historical relics through elaborate makeup, costumes, and performances.

Preliminary rounds were held across four regions, attracting 275 teams and 643 participants. The selection process for the finals considered factors such as the participants' motivation, connection to their local heritage, understanding and expression of the artifacts, creativity, and potential for broader dissemination. Staff from 14 national museums also contributed to the judging, ensuring a comprehensive evaluation of the entries.

The success of the 'National Museum Makeup Play' underscores a vibrant movement to connect with and celebrate Korean cultural heritage.
