72 Bodies Recovered After Migrants Drown Trying to Reach Ceuta

Rescue teams have retrieved the bodies of 72 individuals who drowned while attempting to reach the Spanish enclave of Ceuta by sea from Morocco. Spanish public television RTVE and the newspaper El País reported the grim discovery, with the number confirmed by Miguel Ángel Pérez Triano, a representative of the Spanish government in Ceuta.

Police are continuing their search operations in the waters near Ceuta for any further victims. An unnamed police officer cited by El País indicated that "there are more dead in the sea." Local authorities are reportedly preparing a facility with a capacity for up to 200 bodies.

A small group of about ten individuals who tried to enter the city were apprehended by military personnel, according to El País.

The Spanish National Institute of Health Management reported that 1,149 migrants have received medical attention after attempting to cross the border. One individual suffered serious injuries and required transfer to the Spanish mainland.
