8 Decades of BNI Growing Together with Indonesia in the Spirit of Swadharma Bhakti Nagara

PT Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI) is marking its 80th anniversary, celebrating eight decades of operation as the nation's first state-owned bank. Under the theme 'Swadharma Bhakti Nagara,' BNI reflects on its journey of serving the Indonesian people, nation, and state.

BNI's President Director, Putrama Wahju Setyawan, stated that the bank's 80-year trajectory signifies not just business growth but also a consistent commitment to maintaining public trust and fulfilling its role as a bank born from national spirit. "Over eight decades, BNI has grown alongside Indonesia. Every step we have taken has always been based on the spirit of providing greater benefit to the community, nation, and state," Putrama said.

Putrama attributes BNI's resilience, growth, and relevance over eight decades to the 'Swadharma Bhakti Nagara' value. This value serves as a compass for professional responsibility, community service, and contribution to national interests. 'Swadharma' represents disciplined, ethical, and competent execution of duties; 'Bhakti' signifies a spirit of service aimed at broader community benefit; and 'Nagara' underscores BNI's focus on supporting national development and economic stability.

These values are embodied in BNI's work culture through three key behaviors: 'Seva' (wholehearted service and trust-building), 'Karya' (professionalism and results orientation), and 'Raksa' (integrity, good governance, and prudent risk management). Founded on July 5, 1946, amidst Indonesia's struggle for independence, BNI has played a historical role in the development of the nation's economy and banking sector. Its founder, R.M. Margono Djojohadikusumo, a prominent national economist, laid the foundation for Indonesia's financial institutions and instilled a spirit of national service that continues to guide BNI.
