80-year-old man jailed for groping caregiver's buttocks

An 80-year-old man residing in a care facility in Taiwan has been sentenced to 25 days of detention for sexually harassing a female caregiver. The incident involved the man, identified by the surname Lin, reaching out and touching the caregiver's buttocks as she walked past his chair.

Lin, who has mobility issues and uses a cane, initially offered conflicting accounts of the event when questioned by authorities. He claimed it was an accidental touch from his cane, then a chair, and even suggested the caregiver had bumped into his finger. However, surveillance footage clearly captured him intentionally extending his hand toward her.

The judge found Lin's actions to be sexually harassing, noting that he touched a private area of the caregiver's body while she was facing away and unable to resist. The court also considered Lin's inconsistent statements as evidence of guilt. Despite the conviction, Lin's sentence was reduced due to his age, and he has the option to pay a fine instead of serving the detention.
